“Since I’ve suffered so greatly myself from a complicated and challenging chronic condition, it gives me so much joy to help people like you who refuse to give up when it comes to recapturing your health and vitality.”
~ Dr. Andrea Rosario
I understand what you’re going through.
My struggle with severe autoimmune thyroid disease started when I was 8 years old and couldn’t swallow because of the huge goiter in my throat. When I was in high school, I was tested for learning disabilities because I couldn’t focus and could barely read. When I was in chiropractic school, I napped in my car between classes and gained 5 pounds every 2 weeks even though I was training for a marathon.
I don’t remember the first couple of years of my first child’s life because I was in such a brain fog. When I opened my chiropractic practice, I was so sick I could hardly finish a sentence – not the way to make a good impression! I finally got so sick, I had to close my practice.
And nobody could seem to help me. They slapped band aids on my symptoms that never worked for very long. No one could figure out what was going on with me. I got so sick and tired of being shooed out one medical door after another and being treated like I was crazy.
I was desperate, discouraged, and about to give up.
That’s when I decided it was up to me to figure it out and heal myself. So I pursued training in various specialties – functional medicine, neuroendocrine immunology, functional neurology, and nutrigenomics. I studied with people who were pioneers in their fields and on the cutting edge of health practices, such as Dr. Datis Kharrazian and Dr. Ben Lynch. I researched, I learned, I experimented, and I began connecting the dots. Slowly but surely, I got better.
I started applying what I had learned during my own healing journey to helping others, and the Functional Longevity Institute was born. I asked myself what did I need when I was trying to get better? What had been most useful? How did I wish I had been treated as a patient? As a person? And FLI as it is today began to take shape.
I’m so proud of what we’ve created! I’m so passionate about the work we do here. It’s not just your overall health and well-being that we help you restore. We help you get your life back. We help you get YOU back!

“I have chosen to be happy because it is good for my health.”
I love that quote because it’s so empowering!
It reminds me that we have so many choices when it comes to our health – even though it doesn’t always seem like it. It’s all a question of learning what those choices are. And I’m all about the learning!
After a few years in chiropractic practice, I realized I missed intellectual pursuit and the halls of academia so much that I went back to the classroom – this time to teach!
I began teaching western medicine courses at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland, California. I ended up teaching over 15 different subjects during my time with the Academy while chiropractic patient care remained a focus. I was honored to be invited to join the Doctoral Program Committee as well as speak at the 2013 graduation ceremony.
All those years of both practice and teaching made me realize something. We are never truly done learning. There is always something in our health or well-being to be improved upon. And what a source of inspiration and hope that is!
I’m delighted to be working with my good friend and respected colleague, Dr. Andrea Rosario. Of course FLI’s emphasis upon education and information is near and dear to my heart, as is the patient-centered model she has developed.
I’m so gratified to be helping a whole new group of people take their next steps toward balanced health and overall well-being.

“Every one of us gets through the tough times because somebody is there, standing in the gap to close it for us.
~ Oprah Winfrey
That’s me – I’ve been a gap closer ever since I was a child!
You know the little girl in first grade who always runs up to the child who’s crying and puts her arm around their shoulders? That was me. I’ve been a gap closer and a caregiver and a coach my whole life!
I’ve also been on my own personal health quest for over 25 years, ever since I lost 100 pounds and kept it off. I’m inspired by the power of the mind-body connection that I have witnessed as a Bowen therapist for the past 22 years and as a relationship and life coach the past 9 years. There’s nothing like it!
When I can encourage people to use that power to achieve physical, emotional, and spiritual health, I know I’m doing the work I came here to do. When I can help our FLI clients with the inevitable lifestyle and relationship challenges that arise on their healing journeys, then I have found my sweet spot!
Dr. Rosario has been a close personal friend of mine for many years, and I’ve been admiring and respecting her work at the Functional Longevity Institute ever since it opened. So of course I sought Dr. Rosario’s assistance with my own autoimmune disease.
I had been doing everything I knew how to do to live a healthy life, but it just wasn’t enough. My body needed something more, something different. Since I’ve become a patient at FLI and have followed her program, my life has changed in a way I never could have imagined! I haven’t had this much energy or felt this good in years. And trust me – I need all the energy I can get between my work, my family, and especially my seven grandchildren!
When Dr. Rosario told me she wanted to add coaching and client support to the services FLI offers its clients, it was a no brainer. I jumped at the chance to be of service and help others experience a smoother, more successful healing journey.
